Production and Post-Production Steps to Follow

Use these steps as guidelines to help you communicate with the internal client and the video program manager during key moments in the production and post-production phases. We understand that some of these steps may not apply to your situation.  Allow at least two business days for Children’s staff to review at each relevant step.

Script

Send a copy of your proposed script to your client contact at Children’s and to video@seattlechildrens.org

Filming

  • Shoot 1080p and 24fps or 30fps.
  • Avoid soft focus, excessive use of slow motion, and unnatural settings.
  • Consider balancing diversity of gender, age and race when creating and selecting video footage.

Editing

All pieces should be edited in Final Cut Pro 7 or Adobe Premiere.

Rough Cut

  • Send a link of the rough cut to your client and video@seattlechildrens.org.
  • Upload the video to a video sharing site that is password protected or has closed/private links.
  • Be sure to describe for the client that a rough cut will have rough transitions and sound, etc. You would like them to look at the order of the content, length, sound bytes, and visuals.

Fine Cut

  • Send a link of the fine cut to your client and video@seattlechildrens.org.
  • Upload the video to a video sharing site that is password protected or has closed/private links.

Budget Update

Update your client and the video program manager in a simple email. Tell them that you scoped the project to cost X and whether you are currently on budget, expect to be below budget, or are spending more than projected.

If you are spending more than projected:

  • Explain why and provide a new full-cost estimate and how much over original budget the project will be.
  • Wait for the client to give approval before you proceed on the project.

Final Cut

  • Send a link of the final cut to your client and video@seattlechildrens.org.
  • Upload the video to a video sharing site that is password protected or has closed/private links.

Upload Final

Complete the following steps so we can post it to our YouTube channel or seattlechildrens.org.

  • Upload your final video in H.264.mov to We Transfer or HighTail. Send email to ehealth@seattlechildrens.org that includes a link to the video, an attribution for music rights and the duration of those rights. Note: If the client only wishes the video to be used for a special event or internal communication, you may not need to follow this step.
  • Provide a transcript. Please use one of the following transcription services: Speechpad, SpeakerText, Verbal Ink, and include transcription costs in your invoice. Rates typically range from $1.00 to $2.00 per minute.
  • Provide an uncompressed QuickTime movie. Final deliverable in native size (1080p or 720p) as an uncompressed QuickTime with voice-over and sound effects panned left, music panned right and all graphics taken off. Include two seconds of black at the head and tail of the movie and split-track master.

Feedback

We continually strive to make this process beneficial to you, staff and our patients. If you have feedback about the process or the interactions you had with the client, staff or patients, please send us an email at video@seattlechildrens.org.
